Robert Ludwig was born and raised in Marana and  extremely proud to have attended MHS.  Following graduation he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1972.  Following a 5-year commitment after graduation from the academy, he left the military and went to graduate school at Arizona State University in Electrical Engineering.  He worked for Hughes Aircraft for 3 years and then ran his family electronics business for 20 years.  In 2001, he received an assignment from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to serve in Denver, Colorado as a mission president for 3 years.  He relocated to Denver following that assignment and lived there for 3 years before being assigned to serve as a mission president in Nauvoo, Illinois.  While living in Marana, his children attended MHS and his wife Martha was integrally involved in the district.

Robert Estes Ludwig, 73, much loved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully on January 22, 2023 at his home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He courageously fought a 16-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Bob was born on December 30, 1949 in Marana, Arizona and was the oldest child of Ralph and Betty Ludwig. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University. He married the love of his life, Martha Ann Fox, and they became the parents of four children.

Bob was a business owner, an experienced private pilot, and fascinated with all things mechanical.  He worked for Hughes Aircraft Company in the 1970’s and then was the owner and president of Ludwig Industries for 25 years. His true passions in life, however, were his family and his faith. He and Martha spent some of their happiest days serving missions in Colorado, Illinois, and South Africa. They also loved to travel the country to visit their children and grandchildren, making memories and getting the very most out of life. Bob was known for his kindness, integrity, attention to detail, and his work ethic.

Bob was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a deep and abiding testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ.  His life was a true testament of service and love for others and was filled with optimism and gratitude.

Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Martha Ludwig; their children, Brian (Andrea) Ludwig, Julie (Glenn) Roper, Amy (Scott) Nuzman, and Brent (Kristen) Ludwig; sixteen grandchildren; and his brother, Bill Ludwig.
