Bob Honea

Year of Graduation: 1946

It is with great sadness that the family of Bob Honea announces his passing on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at the age of 90, in his home surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Tempe, AZ, on May 28, 1929, to Wilburn and Cloie Honea. He is survived by Pat, his wife of 68 years; his daughters, Kathleen (Bob) Kaveloh, Darleen (Sam) Hall, Jennifer (Scott) Engle; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Bob attended the University of Arizona from 1947 to 1951 on a basketball scholarship. He was co-captain and the leading scorer his senior year on the 1951 Border Conference Championship Team. Bob held the free-throw record at 80% for 10 years at the UofA. It was reported that he had never lost a home game during his time at the UofA. He met and married Pat, his lifetime companion, and then served two years in the Army during the Korean War. He returned to serve as postmaster for the town of Marana for 30 years, while building the successful Bridle Bit Ranch from 1954 to 2005, where he was best known for his registered Brangus herd.

In February 2004, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the UofA. His Christian faith guided his life, and he was very active at the Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene. Bob will always be remembered as tender-hearted, a man of integrity, hard-working, and above all, a man who loved Christ and his family.
