W. H. Pat Garrett

Years At MHS: Unknown

Born in Texas in 1914, one of seven children of Maggie and Haiward Garrett, W.H. “Pat” Garrett moved to Arizona with his family when he was 10 years old.  It was there that he met the love of his life, Vyvyan Davis, who he married in 1935.  Together they raised 5 children and enjoyed 24 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.  Pat and Vyvyan Garrett moved to Marana in 1957 where he was soon given the nickname of “Pat” after Pat Garrett who shot Billy the Kid.  He never liked his real name, Wilmer Haiward–and was happy to be known as Pat.  While in Marana, his primary career was to manage the Cortaro Water Users Association which he did until his retirement.  Pat and Vyvyan were an integral part of the Marana community where Pat served on the Marana School Board for many years.  He had an active role in Marana’s incorporation, served as a magistrate and was the town’s first acting mayor.  Although they later moved to Tucson, they always considered Marana home.
